The physics that causes warm air to rise and cool air to fall are constantly working against forced air heating systems, particularly in outdoor or high ceiling areas. The radiant heat energy emitted by infrared heaters is transferred direct to the people and objects under them. It is the same principle that allows the sun to make a clear, cold day feel warm.
